It really is nice out today - it doesn't make Lex any less paranoid about being attacked, of course, but it means that she at least doesn't have to have as many layers on. She's still wearing her armor, of course, and so is Dogmeat - but her hair is pulled back in a ponytail and both chimera and dog seem to be in good spirits as they approach, Lex waving back. ]
Hey!
[ The greeting is enough for Dogmeat to run forward, barking happily, though the wasteland mutt doesn't quite seem to know which of the three to greet first and instead runs around them in a big circle while Lex laughs and finishes her approach. ]
Apparently he's going to give Sharpshot a good workout today, [ she grins, wings - now healed from where they had been cut, months ago - fluttering happily behind her. ]
[Hiccup laughs at Dogmeat's approach, watching as Sharpshot abandons the mouse he's been tracking to squawk and flutter after the dog in wide circles. He does look slightly rounder in the trunk these days; on such a skinny lizard, it shows. Toothless only raises his head to look at them, tail swishing lazily as he 'supervises' the proceedings.]
All the better. They can have a good time down here - I've already checked the area and there isn't anything close, but Sharpshot will alert Toothless if he spots anything.
[ There's another excited bark as Dogmeat realizes he's being chased by Sharpshot, and he switches up his course a little, including a jump over Toothless's swishing tail. Gotta make the Terror work out, right? ]
My eyes and ears aren't so bad either, anymore. Or nose, for that matter.
[ She's not sure how it compares to Sharpshot, but her senses are better than they once had been, at least. There's a cheeky tug on her own fox ear before she grins and moves over to offer Toothless some pats, looking for any sign of the enchantments mentioned. ]
Okay, so, I'm here now. What enchantments are you testing?
[The Terror is all to happy to take the bait and give chase, apparently - nobody ever said he's as bright as the other companion animals around, but he Tries His Best. Those lil wing muscles are working hard!
Hiccup smiles a little wider.] I bet. That has to be- you know, weird, on top of everything else, but useful.
[Toothless purrs out a sound of approval, rubbing into her hand and the whole side of her body, clearly just as pleased to see her, while Hiccup starts slipping into his armor.]
It's a wind enchantment, to help propel my own wings, even when there is no wind! This way if I get separated from Toothless I can do more than just glide downward. I've been looking for an excuse to test it out - Newt doesn't want me jumping off the Bright Wall for some reason.
Lex laughs as Toothless rubs into her and kneels down so the dragon doesn't have to get up, more than happy to hug and fuss over him. ]
Not as weird as some other things, [ she says with a little snort, but she isn't going to elaborate. You don't want to know, Hiccup. ]
Wind enchantment's smart- can't imagine why Newt doesn't want you jumping off the Wall, it sounds perfectly safe. [ That was sarcasm. ] D'you have any way for thrust at all, in case you need to keep moving or get up in the air without Toothless?
[He probably does not want to know and does not ask, just smiles sheepishly, because that's a whole area he's never had to deal with. Not even... peripherally, since he's an idiot bonded to another Witch.
Toothless just seems delighted. This is one of his favorite people right here. Others might bring food but Lex brings the good scritches.]
It's totally safe! Toothless would catch me. And the Bright Wall isn't that high compared to some of the flights I've taken at home. [Adrenaline junkie.] Eh, the wind spells should work fine if I'm already in motion. The other stuff I'm- still testing.
[ Does she need to point out that you can have more than one bond again, Hiccup? Does she?
Food is important - but so are the good scritches. As touch-starved as Lex had once been, she knows this well. ]
You know that relying on someone to catch you doesn't actually make something safe, right? [ Idiot. ] Well, don't get yourself blown up. I think they'd be good ideas if you can get them to work, though.
[ She extends one wing and flaps it slightly, as if to demonstrate. ]
You sound like my dad again. [He delivers with a wry smile, testing a few straps and mechanisms.] I've been doing this for years! Well, not the magic thing. The flying thing. [You aren't living if you aren't regularly plummeting toward the ground from hundreds of feet in the air.]
I can't wait to give it a shot. Today's as good a day as any, I can show you what I've got as far as directed gliding, anyway! Shall we go up?
[Toothless lumbers to his feet, shaking like a dog, perking up at the idea of flying.]
Have you ever considered that maybe your dad and I are very smart people? [ She sticks her tongue out at him. ] But yeah, let's go.
[ Standing as Toothless does, flapping her wings again to help keep her balance as she looses the dragon she was leaning on, Lex whistles quickly for Dogmeat to look at her. ]
Gonna be flying, boy! You and Sharpshot yell if you need something!
[ Dogmeat barks an affirmative, then appears to try and do a quick turn to attempt and pounce on the small dragon. Laughing, Lex shakes her head and takes several steps away from Toothless - gotta give everyone space to take off, after all. ]
It may have occurred to me. [He shoots her a warm smile in return, turning to Sharpshot and Dogmeat then.] You two be good, okay? [A squawk from the little dragon, at least before he flits up just out of Dogmeat's reach to squawk at him instead.
Hiccup only laughs, content that they'll be pretty safe, and after checking his armor over once, he swings into the saddle. Toothless bounds across the field, big wings flapping, carrying the two of them up into the air.
He can't help but feel elated, the way he always does on a flight.] Wind's just right today! [He shouts over it.]

I'm looking forward to a flight test myself.
