![]() LEX (19) Wastelander from 2277 who likes dogs, picking locks, and not getting radioactive dirt everywhere. Used to a lot of shit. People not actively trying to kill me sounds good, to start with. |

i am. it's mostly out of necessity but i love doing it - seeing what i can find, the old and forgotten parts of people's lives. it's better than waiting to die in a vault or one of the "cities" in the wasteland. i can find supplies to sell and clear out dangerous nests of creatures to keep people who can't safe.

I am likewise an explorer, though my reasons are different. You speak of wastelands and your word choice regarding people's lives have me intrigued. Was your world ravaged?
no subject
yes. 200 years ago, every country with a nuclear weapon used them on each other and the rest of the world. most life on the surface was destroyed; what's left of the human race survived only because they were locked away in underground vaults. well, that or they were exposed to enough radiation to kill them, but didn't die; they look like walking corpses and are called ghouls (some are as intelligent as you and i, others are completely feral.) most animals died and most of what's left mutated into something bigger and deadlier.
radiation is a part of life in the wasteland. it's not always in high enough levels to kill you (or turn you into a ghoul) immediately, but it's enough that it will do it eventually, if someone or something else doesn't do it first.
no subject
You have managed to survive successfully despite the radiation, or have you been careful in avoiding areas with high levels of radiation, and avoided anything that might otherwise kill you. Was most of the damage done only to life forms or were the cities ruined, as well?
sorry about the delay, my wrist decided i wasn't allowed to use it for 3 weeks :'|
"interspecies ethics"? that sounds really interesting, actually.
and both, to both questions. you can't avoid it all, whether that's radiation or things trying to kill you. unfortunately, the best places for supplies that people need are filled with both. as someone who has survived so far, and more on skill than luck, i do tend to go to some of those places if the risk is lower than the reward.
all the old cities are ruins. most of the new cities are in the ruins, or built out of scrap. some of the buildings are still standing but even those are pretty heavily damaged. i'm not certain if you're familiar with washington d.c. on earth? but i'm from around there.
no worries at all! hope the wrist is all healed up now
I am familiar with the area, though I have yet to visit. In my world, it still stands and there are known issues with it. This city must be vastly different for you, if you are used to surviving in such a harsh environment.
it's getting there! thanks!
It's almost completely overtaken by Super Mutants in the center. There are trenches everywhere. Ghouls have the Museum of Natural History as their city. The Washington Monument is currently protected by a group called the Brotherhood of Steel; it's used as a radio tower so that people can actually get some sort of news.

If the world is overrun with radiation and chances are high that many individuals will be overrun by monsters, what information is deemed relevant?
no subject
Sometimes Three Dog -- that's the DJ, I don't know why he's called that -- will tell people about events he's heard of, ones to make them wary or add some hope that it's not all just death out there.
no subject
Perhaps his name came about because he is the owner of three canines?
no subject
if he is, I haven't seen them. but maybe he used to own them and doesn't anymore.
most dogs in the wasteland aren't pet material; a lot of them run wild in packs, attacking travelers for food. actually most everything in the wasteland isn't pet material. domesticated animals tend to need to have more purpose than companionship. even my dog is right there with me if we're under attack.
no subject
The concept of domesticated animals providing more than companionship is not unusual. On my former planet, many families had domesticated sehlats, which are quite deadly if angered. They provide young Vulcans a valuable lesson in the treatment of animals, discipline, and afford some protection.
no subject
do they have any sehlats in the zoo? i know they have some of the animals from my world -- or they got some after i asked, at least.
and- "former planet"?
no subject
I am unsure. I have not requested them but that does not mean they are not present.
My planet was destroyed by a man bent on revenge against an individual who was unable to provide assistance to his planet. He intended to destroy Earth, as well, but was stopped before he successfully carried out his goal.
no subject
we should check. i'd like to see one but i have no idea what they look like, so you'd have to be there.
[ LOGIC. ]
oh wow. i'm so sorry. it's- completely destroyed, then?
i mean. if you don't want to talk about it that's fine.
no subject
There are also those who do what is they feel is right and manage destruction. Though, considering your words, this is not the case for you.
Your point is valid. Shall we make a trip in the upcoming weeks?
[ It is something like logic, alright. ]
The planet no longer exists, and roughly 10,000 Vulcans remain. However, a suitable planet was located and my people are rebuilding. It is not easy, but it is perseverance in the face of adversity that determines character.
no subject
i think that's part of why i'm uncomfortable with being considered one. i'm a person. i can mess up, make mistakes. and i don't want to let people down like that.
i'd like that. i'll have my dog with me, if that's okay? just tell me when you're available.
well i'm glad that your people are able to rebuild. that they're persevering. it can be so easy to give in to despair, but it looks like some great strides are already being made. others are helping?
no subject
That is acceptable. Is he likely to be disturbed by the scent of a cat? As I have one such creature and while he will stay home, it is often impossible to escape stray cat hairs.
My people are part of a Federation of planets and the other planets are assisting in the efforts to rebuild and ensure measures of safety.
no subject
nah, he likes cats. wants to be friends with all of them. he's likely to sniff you and maybe try to seek out some head scratches and lick you, though.
that's good. more people should help each other.
no subject
I have no objection to such actions. Shall we schedule for next week, then? Provided you are free.
no subject
next week sound good to me!
